Watch This Nigerian Policeman Assault A Pregnant Woman In Lagos

In the wake of an incident in Ajah that had some Policemen run over a motor cyclist in a cop chase, a look at the past antecedents of the police force has shown that they have a history of molesting innocent citizens in the name of carrying out their job.
Another incident that spans over two months ago shows how a policeman physically assaulted a pregnant woman in Lagos. In the video, he is shown rough handling her aggressively. While her identity could not be shown because of the angle of the filming, the sound of the passengers close by made it clear that he knew she was pregnant.
Though his arrest was ordered, a similar and even more fatal repetition of police brutality like this has a lot of people wondering who to entrust their safety to.

photo - Governor Fashiola: No Hiding Place For Criminals In Lagos State!
Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, along with top members of his executive council, were shown how the 1,200 closed-circuit television cameras located in the state work.
The security demonstration was carried out at the Command and Control Centre, Alausa, on the 27-screen video wall monitors by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mrs Nike Animashaun.
The initial stage of the CCTV project was launched in 2009 by the State Government. Then, the solar-powered CCTV cameras were installed at three locations – Falomo Bridge, Third Mainland Bridge and Eko Bridge. The project proved to be a success.
Governor Fashola and his colleagues were shown a footage of a last year's armed robbery incident at the Murtala Muhhammed International Airport. A gang of armed thugs raided a currency exchange bureau and stole a large amount of money. However, the police were able to apprehend the criminals with the help of recordings made by the CCTV cameras installed at strategic places.
Arrests made by the cameras prove that this technical equipment is handy in monitoring, fighting and tracking down criminal activities in the society.
Currently, activities at the airport, Agege Motor Road, Oshodi, Festac can be monitored through the security cameras. The technicians can zoom in on individuals, vehicles' number plates and other relevant details.

Mountain of Fire begins crusade to close all beer parlors in Lagos

Dr Daniel Olukoya-led Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries church, MFM, will today Dec. 19th begin a crusade to close down all beer parlor outlets in Lagos and turn them into their praying centres. Well, that's their plan, they can only try. Lol

The church says it took the decision to close down beer parlors because alcohol consumption & crime go hand in hand. They say the action would ultimately help depopulate the kingdom of darkness. Ogba, Ikeja is their kickoff base, so all you beer drinkers in that area, make una get ready. Hehe.

Speaking on the strategy to be adopted, Pastor Aderemi Oseni, Regional Pastor for Region 32 MFM Ogba, Lagos, he said;
"We want to convert beer parlours into our praying centres. At the end of the crusade, the kingdom of darkness would be depopulated completely. I am aware that powers of darkness have converted major roads to shines in this environment. We want to pull down all shrines".
The crusade, tagged 'Overcoming The Storm' will begin today 19 December.

Lagos Bar Beach Gives Way To Real Estate

bar-beach.jpg - bar-beach.jpg
 Lagos Bar Beach
WHILE COUNTRIES SERIOUS ABOUT TOURISM ARE DEVELOPING AND RESTORING THEIR TOURIST SITES WITH HUGE MULTIPLIER EFFECTS, NIGERIA SEEMS TO BE ON THE PATH TOWARDS DESTROYING ONE OF ITS MOST POPULAR TOURISM LEGACIES (THE LAGOS BAR BEACH) AND THE MEMORIES IT HOLDS. OMOLOLA ITAYEMI WRITES ABOUT BAR BEACH’S METAMORPHOSIS TO A REAL ESTATE AND THE NEGATIVE IMPACT ON TOURISM
The Bar beach on Ahmadu Bello way, Victoria Island is officially closed to the public, don’t let the colourful kiosks and huge boulders fool you, its no more for lounging by the sea-side, collecting sea-shells, swimming (if you are that brave), religious,  traditional and other entertaining activities.
Any attempt to walk towards it, sometimes just as soon as you’re alighting from your car, security personnel tell you to leave in no smiling manner, demanding you go to Elegushi Beach, a smaller beach, some kilometres away, if you wish to enjoy that beach experience.
Disappointed, people leave. Eko Atlantic City project is on (the land reclamation actually started in February 2008 with a seven-year dredging operation planned to create 8,000 square metres of new land every day but was officially declared last year in a glitzy ceremony including Bill Clinton, former President of the United states) and Bar Beach is part of it. Cranes, bull dozers and other construction equipments littered all over the beach line shows active work in progress and dashing the hopes of fun seekers still visiting hoping to savour some tranquil moments or just gaze at the beach for motivation etc
With the  World Tourism Organization [WTO] estimation that tourism accounts for up to 10% of global gross domestic product (GDP), making it the world’s biggest and fastest developing industry, are we not circumventing tourism’s potential to contribute significantly to GDP.

Chaos on Ajah Road in Lagos as trailer kills five school children

There's serious pandemonium on Ajah Road in Lagos as you read this. Area boys and passers-by are clashing with policemen after a trailer crushed five students as they were crossing the road. The sad incident happened close to Ikota Primary School and the dead pupils are believed to be making their way to the school when they were killed. The tanker driver abandoned his truck and escaped.

The people protesting are insisting they won't leave the area until Governor Fashola shows up. They are blaming the gruesome accident on the lack of a pedestrian bridge in the area. The two express lanes have been blocked by the angry protesters which has caused heavy traffic in the area. There's heavy police presence in the are. Will keep y'all updated.
